ICU Mobile (pronounced “I See you”) is the pioneer and leader in mobile ultrasound ministry.  We were the first to fully deploy, operate and execute a mobile ultrasound ministry in the United States.   We currently have 12 mobile ultrasound vehicles in the United States and we are moving quickly to expand our fleet nationally and globally.  Our fleet of mobile ultrasound vehicles “Go To” women and meet them where they are, where they hang out and where they live.  In cities and towns, both urban and rural, across the United States and around the world, our approach is simple: reveal truth via ultrasound at a time when a woman is in the decision making process.  It is our mission to provide women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy the free opportunity to verify pregnancy via a limited obstetrical ultrasound and see their unborn child in order to make an informed life-affirming decision and hear the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

An ICU Mobile is custom engineered and neutrally branded RV specifically designed for the purpose of performing limited obstetrical ultrasounds to verify pregnancy and allow a woman to see her unborn child.  Each ICU Mobile is equipped with private exam room, ultrasound machine, counseling area and all the amenities normally found in an RV.  One of the most important aspects of ICU Mobile is the trained and licensed professionals who are passionate and committed to reach women, save the lives of unborn children and sharing the Gospel.

We recognize there are many people and many organizations throughout the pro-life movement with varying methods, different agenda’s and unique missions.  We do not wish to get into debates or ongoing dialogue about the benefits or limitations of the many techniques we have encountered over the years.

ICU Mobile simply desires to care for women holistically – physically, emotionally and spiritually.  We seek to reflect Christ’s love and compassion by serving women with a free ultrasound in a safe and comfortable setting so they have the most accurate and current information to make a life affirming decision.  We also share the good news of Jesus with every woman, her family and friends that come aboard an ICU Mobile so that they have the opportunity to have new life in Christ.

Regardless of a woman’s circumstances, or the decision they make, we are a non-judgmental, non-coercive and non-political ministry of love, compassion and hope.  We do not get involved in protests, political matters or any intervention technique that is contrary to our mission and values <link to our mission statement and core values>

While it may seem that parking a mobile ultrasound vehicle in front of or near an abortion clinic or Planned Parenthood is the best way to reach women and save babies our years of experience and proven effectiveness as the pioneer and leader in mobile ultrasound ministry actually tell a much different story.

Very often, when a woman appears at an abortion clinic, they have already decided to have an abortion.  Often under the watchful eye of a family member or friend who is reinforcing the decision, they are hurriedly guided into the clinic and the opportunity to intervene is minimal or non-existent.  While we recommend scheduled time for the mobile in front of or near abortion clinics, we reach more women and save more babies by connecting with them, educating them and revealing life during the decision making process rather trying to intervene and change minds and hearts at the last possible moment.    This means meeting women during the time they are deciding – at shopping plazas, in neighborhood community areas, near college campuses, at the beach or anywhere there may be a high concentration of women likely to experience an unplanned pregnancy.

Through careful research and planning, we guide the pregnancy centers operating ICU Mobile ultrasound vehicles to the areas of the community most affected by high abortion rates.  Through well planned traditional media and social media campaigns we guide the women most in need of our services to our mobiles.

ICU Mobile ultrasound vehicles go where the need is greatest, where we can serve the most women and connect those women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy.  This means going where women are during the time they are deciding.  This often leads us to shopping plazas, neighborhood community areas, near college campuses, at the beach and in front of or near abortion clinics and Planned Parenthood.  ICU Mobile goes anywhere there may be a high concentration of women likely to experience an unplanned pregnancy.

Thanks to public information and other partner organizations extensive research, we are able to guide the ICU Mobile to the areas of the community most affected by high abortion rates.  Through well planned traditional media and social media campaigns we guide the women most in need of our services to our mobiles.

For many women facing an unplanned pregnancy, gaining access to a free ultrasound to verify pregnancy and the life affirming truth it brings is more than a challenge, it‘s an impossibility.  Pregnancy resource centers (PRC’s) and other like minded ministries play a significant and active role but they are unfortunately bound by the foundation beneath their feet and the walls that surround them.  Many women, especially in more impoverished urban and rural environments do not have access to transportation necessary to bring them to a PRC’s front door.  Like it or not, many in the community are aware of the PRC’s position and do not have an incentive to visit a PRC until they have made a choice for life.

That‘s where ICU Mobile makes a difference in the lives of women all across the country and around the world.  We bring a free ultrasound to women, meeting them where they are; with a well branded, effective and efficient Gospel driven ministry that lives out the Great Commission to “Go into all the world and make disciples.”

Casting a sound strategic vision while providing governance, accountability, support and value added benefits to PRC’s and affiliates, ICU Mobile can impact women around the world to choose life and choose Christ.

Each mobile is branded and equipped devoid of anything other than the welcoming, neutral, non-judgmental, non-coercive and non-political ICU Mobile brand.  The reason is quite simple really, we strive to be baby neutral and agenda neutral so that every woman, regardless of circumstances or position in life, will feel welcomed and loved.  We do not change hearts and minds - the ultrasound image that reflects the handiwork of God does that far beyond our abilities; therefore the neutral brand allows ICU Mobile to reach women who are truly undecided, confused and scared.  Women in this situation are far less likely to come aboard a mobile when the agenda is glaringly reflected in the brand and wrap of the vehicle.

Also, our neutral branding allows us to move from community to community without barrier to entry or changes to brand identity.  This allows an affiliated pregnancy center or ministry operating an ICU Mobile to create fundraising opportunities by leasing or contracting mobile ultrasound services to neighboring PRC’s and communities.  Without a neutral brand, this is not as practical.

There have been a handful of attempts by well meaning, motivated and committed organizations at mobile ultrasound ministry on a local or regional basis.  Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, these have not succeeded.  Lack of an extended support structure, standard operating procedures, sound and legal medical standards of care, consistent strategy, a strong commitment to sharing the Gospel and a holistic approach are many of the reasons these attempts have failed.  The first inclination of many organizations to fully recreate the total PRC experience on wheels, rather than focus on the life decision, has led to many failed attempts.

One of the largest contributing factors to the failure of standalone mobile ultrasound programs is poorly executed branding.  Often, the branding of the mobile includes a PRC name, the name of the ministry and/or church that has provided funding, Scripture, pictures of babies, storks or many other clear signs of an agenda.  Brands that are not baby neutral, ministry neutral or agenda neutral will not attract women who are facing a tough decision under tough circumstances.

Ultimately, the lack of a cohesive neutral brand, operational and process consistency, accountability, centralized support and governance many well meaning attempts to execute mobile ultrasound ministry will fail, sometimes with medical and legal repercussions, and cast a bad light on the entire concept of mobile ultrasound vehicles as a whole.

Our ministry was founded in 2003 by Sylvia Slifko <link to Sylvia bio> and the genesis of ICU Mobile is really a story of God leading and Sylvia obeying.  Today, ICU Mobile is led by Michael Homula <insert link to bio> who serves as Executive Director of the Akron, Ohio based ministry.  Each ICU Mobile is operated by competent and effective pregnancy resource centers, sometimes in partnership with local ministry organizations and leaders, who provide knowledge, experience, operational support and staff for the mobile ultrasound ministry.

The leadership, affiliates, staff and volunteers of ICU Mobile is made up of passionate and dedicated people, brought together by a common goal to serve women in the name of Christ, who are at the crossroads of decision.
