Beyond The RV

We often hear that our mobile units were an interesting choice in creating a ministry that will provide medical level services to women in need. They can seem daunting. We get that. But putting ultrasound clinics on wheels gives us the opportunity and freedom to go where we are needed. We don’t have to sit in one place and wait for women to find us.

Our purpose in being mobile is to create accessibility. Offer an open door on any corner. Share hope in neighborhoods that seemingly have none.

It is our goal that pregnancy care be easier for women to access than abortion centers. It is our prayer that, wherever an ICU Mobile RV is parked, it’s right in the path of a woman who is ready to meet her baby for the first time and make a choice for life. By creating these mobile units, we are able to provide a crucial first look at the new life a mother has inside of her and guide her to resources and care right in her community that will be with her throughout her pregnancy.

When we visit a variety of neighborhoods, we also expand our ability to share the good news of Jesus Christ. Oftentimes, communities can become silos for the unchurched or religious affiliations that don’t base their beliefs on the one true God. We can reach more for the glory of God when we travel outside our usual zones. Outside our comfort zones, outside our zip codes, outside our mindsets. Turning wheels give birth to fresh eyes and open hearts to see and hear and truly understand the situation of each woman we interact with. They’re all unique. Every single one of them deserves access to the medical level ultrasound care we provide and even more so, they deserve access to the Savior.

A Birth, A March, An Answered Call

Tuesday, January 8, 2019 4:06 PM
Tuesday, January 8, 2019 4:06 PM

As we transition out of the official Christmas season, we begin to set our sights and hearts on the March for Life 2019. Happening on January 18, this is the time ICU Mobile will put our feet to the pavement and stand for every single life in expectation and to come. No, not every woman is called to give birth to a Savior, but they are designed to give birth to a blessing. The March for Life is our way of sharing with everyone that every baby is a blessing, every life has meaning, and every woman should be given the gift of education, wisdom and the power to make a decision for life.

Christmas shines the light on the story of the most unexpected pregnancy in the history of mankind. It was also the first, and most pivotal, life choice any woman could have made – especially a very young, never married girl, for whom pregnancy would have been impossible. Yet, she made a choice to trust that the child within her was meant to be and she made the choice to endure the most unlikely birth.

Christmas was also the setting of the very first March for Life. The wise men, the women, the people from all around who traveled from afar all for the sake of this one baby. They walked, they rode camels and donkeys, they forged ahead until they made it to their destination – the place they would revere an infant, born of a teenage girl who chose life.

The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ happened in the most humble of ways. Mary and Joseph weren’t invited into a castle, provided a room of fine linens, clean water, and a capable staff. They walked for miles, were turned away by many, and ultimately, brought the King of the World to us in a dirty stall, surrounded by animals, with no provisions.

Today, no woman ever has to endure such unimaginable circumstances when faced with giving birth. No matter how dire her situation seems, no matter the lack of support of the father, family, or friends, ICU Mobile and the Fleet of Mobile units operating across the country will always be the place a woman with an unplanned and unwanted pregnancy can turn to for guidance, support, and help.

Had Norma McCorvey (Jane Roe of Roe v. Wade) had the ability to see into the future, she would have seen the devastation brought to this nation by one unwanted pregnancy. She would have seen that the true situation she didn’t want was that of millions of babies never allowed to take their first breath. Though she was the very woman instrumental in abortion becoming legal in the first trimester, even she recognized she made the wrong choice. She became pro-life, shared her faith, and worked to help women make different choices than she had. She once said, “I looked at a fetal development chart at the Operation Rescue Office in Dallas. I had a lot of emotions stirring up inside of me. That's when I decided that it was wrong in any stage of pregnancy.” If “Jane Roe” came to that conclusion after abortion, our prayer is that her change of heart speaks to all women considering it.

We invite you to join ICU Mobile in the March for Life. This is our time to show a peaceful, loving approach to helping women in all walks of life be empowered to choose life.

“And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:5

The first to recognize our Savior....

During this time of year, I am reminded of the first person to acknowledge the Savior of the World.  Do you remember who it was?  It was not the shepherds visited by the angels, it was not the wise men traveling from the east, and it was not anyone in or around Bethlehem.  The first one to be in awe of our Savior was not even born; it was John the Baptist in his mother’s womb. Scriptures say John leaped for joy when his mother met Mary (Luke 1:41).

Today with ultrasound technology, we have the gift to see these people – real people.  Many come on the mobile not expecting to see much because they are told it is not a real person, only tissue, yet when they see tiny hands and feet and see a beating heart, they know it is a person, their baby!

We are so blessed to serve by GOing to women and revealing the life they are carrying and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ!

Why we GO........

I recently attended a BBQ event held by one of our ICU Mobile ‘s fleet family in Alabama. You could feel the excitement as stories were shared about life decisions being made on the mobile clinic and about lives transformed by the Gospel. That is why we GO, reaching women who are missed by many pregnancy centers today because they are focused on having an abortion and avoid clearly pro-life centers.

Stories were shared of women leaving the abortion clinic after their pre-abortion visit and not really shown their baby on ultrasound. Then seeing the mobile unit, getting that “second opinion” and finding out that the life they are carrying is a real baby, their baby, with arms, legs, fingers and toes….many are shocked at seeing what was not shown them before and seeing the heart beating moves many to a life decision. God is doing an amazing work on the mobile units!

The team there in Alabama is doing an awesome work in making a difference for life and the kingdom. The workers that I met were so excited to be a part of a ministry that is seeing results in the lives of women they meet every day. Since they began their ministry close to 2 years ago, they have seen over 1,600 women, performed over 1,200 ultrasounds, with over 1250 deciding to parent. 112 of these women had planned on abortion change their minds after seeing their baby on ultrasound. And spiritually, they have witnessed over 60 professions of faith in Jesus Christ.

God is using more than these workers in saving these lives. Everyone attending the BBQ plays a critical role, whether it is the workers or those sitting around the table in prayer and financial support, they too are part of the ministry. ICU Mobile supports over 40 mobiles like the one in Alabama as part of His Fleet for Little Feet, and those that are part of the ICU Mobile family are also an extended family in supporting this ministry and the other mobiles as well. I was so honored to attend and be there to celebrate what God is doing in Alabama!

The numbers may be deceiving....

I was watching the news the other night and the news anchor announced that abortions have dropped to the lowest level since the Roe vs Wade decision. At first, I thought, YES!….then I wondered WHY?  Has there been a fundamental shift in our society that is the cause? Sadly, I had to say no, I have not seen any indication the Cultural Revolution is waning, in fact, the evidence is it is getting more blatant and radical. Then what is causing the recorded drop, my suspicion is medical abortions had dropped, however, total abortions are most likely not dropping with the advent of the chemical abortion – the Abortion Pill. This was reinforced when I was speaking with the Sanctity of Human Life leadership at Focus on the Family. We both came to the same conclusion; chemical abortions are taking off and now account for a projected 30% of all abortions, which paints the results in a wholly different light.

What does that mean for us who are working to save the lives of the unborn? I see there is both good and bad news. The bad news is Abortions are more readily available and can be done privately with minimal involvement of others and we need to find ways to be more involved and connected with these women who are considering the chemical route to the death of their baby.

The good news is the Abortion Pill process opens the door for a change of heart and change in the decision to have an abortion. The Abortion Pill is not like the medical procedure, as once it is started the decision is not easily reversible.   The Abortion pill takes days and can be reversed if treated in a timely manner. We in the pro-life movement that are working to save lives need to be educated on the options we can offer. Many of the women taking the Abortion Pill question if they are doing the right thing and we need to be ready with the answer in a loving way to say there is another option – Life! The Abortion Pill can be reversed if the decision is made in a timely manner. The process is not new or uses special chemicals, but uses hormones that have been around for years and used to support a pregnancy. The folks at Heartbeat International have an Abortion Pill Reversal protocol that is proven and works (https://www.abortionpillreversal.com ) Whether you are operating a brick and mortar or mobile pregnancy center we need to be prepared to support the woman who has started down a path she now wants to walk away from. God has given us this knowledge and we can use it now with women who have time to change their minds before they lose their baby.
